Caretaker

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable, practical, and proactive Caretaker to join our school community. This is a hands-on role, responsible for maintaining our school environment to a high standard, ensuring it is safe, clean, and welcoming for students, staff, and visitors.

This position would suit someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys problem-solving, and can work independently while being part of a supportive team.

Key Responsibilities

  • General maintenance of buildings, classrooms, and facilities
  • Grounds upkeep (mowing (not the main field), edging, gardening, rubbish removal)
  • Minor repairs (carpentry, painting, plumbing fixes)
  • Opening and locking the school daily
  • Monitoring and maintaining health & safety compliance
  • Assist with setting up spaces for school events and activities (athletics day markings, hall seating and staging etc.)
  • Managing contractors (e.g. electricians, plumbers)
  • Managing cleaning supplies
  • Maintaining tools and equipment

About You

You will:

  • Be physically fit
  • Have practical maintenance or handyman skills
  • Be proactive
  • Be organised, reliable, and able to manage your time effectively
  • Have good communication skills and a friendly, positive and approachable manner
  • Be comfortable working around children in a school environment
  • Take initiative and show pride in maintaining high standards

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Trade skills or background
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety practices

Hours

7.15 am – 4.15 pm with one hour for lunch (12.30-1.30)

  • Start date: as soon as possible 
  • This position is subject to Police Vetting
